Well, it's already week 3...

Hmmm. As I suspected, I am not very good about keeping up with Blog entries. I can't believe how fast time is going! Today I gave a lecture on my favorite topic: sketch recognition. It's always fun to talk about something I spend so much time doing. In lab, the students' projects seem to be really coming along. I am sad that I will not be around next week to see the final touches being put on them (I will be in Scotland at a conference), but luckily I will be back by Friday in time for the final presentations.

Looking forward to the field trip on Friday...

Week 1

Well, today is the end of week 1 and I've had a great time working with everyone so far. It's lot of fun talking about one of my favorite subjects: AI, and everyone seems to have a different perspective on the matter. I think I finally have everyone's name down now too. Next week we're going to start some programming so that we can apply the concepts we have been learning in class (well, we're not actually going to write a program that can pass the Turing Test...). I'm looking forward to some more hands on experiences, as I am sure all the students are too.

As a side note, so far commuting down from Orange County hasn't been too much trouble. The train is my friend, and as long as I avoid rush hour, the freeway actually isn't so bad either.

This is my first experience with a blog, so I'm learning too! I'm looking forward to the next four weeks of COSMOS. As Joe mentioned in the introductions, I just got my PhD in Artificial Intelligence from MIT, and I can tell you that there's a ton of exciting ideas in this surprisingly broad field. I'm looking forward to exploring a number of them in the new four weeks.
